Think Before You Ink

Greener Campus

The “Green” in Greensboro College has taken on a new meaning because of a renewed environmentally friendly initiative on campus. The goal is to make the College a model of environmental stewardship consequently leading by example.

Many campuses around the country first implemented sustainability measures – recycling, for example – years ago. Greensboro College was one of those leaders with a student-led recycling effort and is now expanding the earlier initiative through “A Greener Initiative.”

From compact fluorescent light bulbs to computer mouse pads made from recycled materials in computer labs, no item is too small for review. The goal is to look at all possible ways the College can be a good steward of the environment.

You’ll find some great resources and tips to help the environment including what’s happening at other colleges, energy conservation resources and a carbon footprint calculator on the following link, just click "Login as a Guest."

Energy Challenge, GC is Doin’ it in the Dark! Check out how.

You can make a difference in our environment by remembering to

Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle!

Reduce!

  • GC Recycling Day - Fall 2008Turn off the lights in your room and in classrooms that are not in use.
  • Walk instead of driving between main campus and Reynolds Center.
  • Check out a bike at the Reynolds Center.
  • Think before you ink! Only print documents when necessary.
  • Decrease the margins on a page.
  • Print front and back.
  • Print on recycled paper.

Reuse!

  • Use the back of printed paper as scrap paper before you recycle it.
  • Use a metal water bottle instead of disposable plastic water bottles.
  • Donate good clothing, couches, and table to local charities instead of tossing them away.

Recycle!

  • GC Recycling Day - Fall 2008Recycling containers are located across the campus.
  • Place all clean recyclable products in the containers with green lids, located inside academic and administrative buildings.
  • Place trash in the appropriate bins, mixing trash with recyclables contaminates the entire bin.
